Hi Sabrina, what are you working on today?
Today is another day focusing on raising capital. Apart from all the fundraising hard work you can imagine, I’m working on my creative marketing projects to stand out from fundraising crowds to engage more with investors!
How did you get to where you are now?
A bit of a happy accident! I started my career as a BD in the private market and thought I’d stay there for my entire career. But then, Oxford Algorithms approached
me, and here I am - loving Oxford Algorithms and the hedge fund industry!
What attracted you to this business?
So many things: the AI, the fund performance, the female leadership, the entrepreneurial spirit, and most importantly, the amazing people building all of those! Being the 1st BD at Oxford Algorithms is instrumental for both the company and growth and my career. It’s incredibly exciting to grow as the firm/fund grows, which can be truly defining for my career!
What has been the most pivotal moment of your career so far?
During covid, I went back to Taiwan for a few months. The setback turned out to be the most pivotal moment of my career, giving me the time to reflect on what I truly want for my career: alternative investments/business development/global financial centre.
What aspect of the industry excites you the most?
The great potential! Look at some leading quant hedge funds like Renaissance Technologies, Two Sigma, and Citadel - they all launched with a few million dollars and they all grew to tens of billions of AUM. The potential for tremendous growth excites me the most!
What would you change?
I’d like to see greater diversity, particularly the gender balance in the hedge fund industry. As an Asian woman, I’ve noticed the unique challenges women face. Empowering women within the industry and creating a more inclusive environment can drive positive change for the industry. Personally, my experience working for a female-led hedge fund has been empowering and motivating!
What do you invest in personally?
I invest a lot in myself, developing myself in general BD, marketing, business knowledge, etc.! It’s a long-term investment that’s already showing some returns and there’ll be more to come!
Where do you celebrate?
I’m a foodie so you’ll find me celebrating in a restaurant!
What is at the top of your bucket list right now?
Safari. Growing up watching Lion King and Discovery, it would be a dream come true to experience that natural beauty firsthand.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is a lifelong goal, in all aspects of my life. What’s more, I believe success is not static but dynamic – it’s an ongoing pursuit of improvement, being a better version of myself every day.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
The best advice I’ve ever received came from my high school teacher, “No fear, no regrets” (the quote is from Victor Hugo). This mindset has been a guiding principle for me, encouraging me to approach everything bravely without fear and to never look back with regrets.
